Not as extreme as some of her later Oscar dresses, Cher still makes a splash in this Golden Harem ensemble by Bob Mackie at the 1972 Academy Awards. She and Sonny were presenters for Best Original Song. Cher donated this outfit to the Christie's "Unforgettable: Fashion of the Oscars" auction to benefit Aids research. It sold for $27,600, the fifth highest price of the entire auction. Oh, those abs.

Bob Mackie...what an amazing talent.
Cher...what an amazing body.
I would have been six then, but she wore similar midriff-baring things on the Sonny & Cher show which I watched religiously. I loved that show. I thought she was the living end.
I feel sad when I think of Cher's excessive plastic surgeries. She just doesn't seem to be able to emote (physically/facially) anymore. Still, what a slammin' bod'!
I can remember reading an article years ago in TV Guide where Bob Mackie was interviewed about his TV designing. He said that Cher always looked great in bare arms because she had such perfect armpits! Can't tell it in that ensemble though.
Perfect armpits! That's a new one! I really enjoyed seeing some of Bob Mackie's costumes on Project Runway last week. I stopped my DVR several times just to take them in.
Love Bob Mackie so over the top.
I too used to watch The Sonny & Cher show as a kid and was mesmorized by Bob Mackie's creations!
Cher had what she called a garage sale a couple of years ago at her Malibu home, though I believe Southeby's handled it for her. If only I could have made it out west that weekend, I could be wearing fur chaps to work today. There is a pdf out there of all the things that were for auction. This is all I could find: http://dir.yahoo.com/thespark/1907/garage-sales-of-the-rich-and-famous?skw=cher+garage+sale+catalog
