Awful 80s Fashion #1

Time to get back to work after the long holiday break. In case you missed it during the holiday weekend, go sign up for my latest giveaway - 3 vintage magazines from the 40s and 50s!

I have loads of mail order catalogs from the 1980s that I've been weeding through. Looking at some of the fashion makes me cringe. Did we really wear this crap? Oh yes, yes we did. This will be an ongoing series, as there is too much for one post. Look at it as comic relief, because I know you're going to laugh.

Leather pants worn with an acrylic sweater that has dangling mink tails at the shoulders.

No one should work out without ribbon roses at her shoulders and waist. No one.

Little sickly sweet pink rosebuds and scallops on black corduroy accented with a big wide pink sash.

Gold stripes on black in a tunic top with tapered elastic waist pants. Oh, yeah, that's sexy.

Big plaid, big shoulders, big headache. Ouch, my eyes.

Holy moly, that's a lot of ugly to lay on us so early on a Monday!

I am looking at that last picture singing "I'm a Lumberjack and I'm okay..."

I do remember some good clothes in the 80s, but these sure aren't the ones! I think the mink tails may win as the worst idea.

I remember the leather pants and sweater outfit from an episode of Dynasty-dont' recall who wore, Krystal or Alexis, but it was one of them!

Wow, I love the 80's and I'm thinking those are indeed hideous looks from that time!

Oh, yeah. I had a similar looking plaid dress, that I wore with cowboy boots, and I thought I looked great!

Its amazing to think that anything of that sort was ever popular.. and yet my mother dressed like that every day.

(*shudders*) I think that the worst part of the 80's was probably the rock n' roll chick eye makeup!....and the feathered hair! yikes!

I have an eighties question.

I bought a dress in 81 or so that I paid nearly $800 for. It was for a special event and I needed to totally Junior League it up. Anyway, some luggage was stolen and the dress went missing a year or so later. I've been trying to remember the name of the designer.

The dress was very similar to a Jessica McClintock type of design but much higher end. It was a pale green silk with a gathered skirt. it had a blouson top that belted at the waist with a beautiful green ribbon. The top and the skirt were both frosted with a heavy green lace and there were little tiny ribbon roses sprinkled all over the trim. I remember the lace as being incredibly beautiful. The roses were handmade and adorable.

I bought it at either Saks or Neiman's - I can't remember which. I've never seen anything quite like it on the vintage sites but I remember the line being around for at least a couple years. When the event came together, I already knew what I wanted. It was very girly and very eighties. I think the line was named after the designer and was a woman's name.

Does this ring any bells?

Lori, your description does not ring any bells. You might try asking at the public forums over at the Vintage Fashion Guild site. There are lots of great people there who could help you out.
