It's April Fool's Day and the perfect opportunity for another installment in my series about
awful 80's fashion. I'd love to tell you that these fashion nightmares are all jokes, but no, these are all actual garments that real people wore in 1983. I recommend that you don't wear any of this stuff......ever.

It's Batwing Girl to the rescue!

Colorblock gone wrong....very wrong.

Slap a couple of rectangles onto the shoulders of a normal dress and this is what you get.

Purple paisley is not sexy. Neither is tying your pant legs closed.

The caption under this picture in the original mail order catalog says, "No picture can do justice to this long cardigan sweater." I wonder why.

No "Awful 80s" post would be complete without plaid. This time it's turned at an angle and blown up into oversize. How not to wear plaid.

Don't people laugh at you when you have an ibix beak pointing at your boob?

Let this be a lesson to you. If you don't want people to look at your face, wear a bright border print at your hips.

Awesome! Are those dueling tyrannosaurs on that cardigan?
Yowza, those are supremely ugly!
And yet, I'm certain I probably wore some similar pieces back in my callous youth...
haha gastly outfits! the 80's were deffo my least favourite for most fashion. This is an excellent example
You owe me for a new keyboard - totally spewed coffee when I saw that purple jumpsuit so perfectly paired with the blue waistcoat..
Ooh my gosh, those made me laugh. I will admit: guilty to wearing square shoulders AND to tieing my pantlegs closed at the cuff (I threaded a rainbow shoelace through and used that). In my defense, I was 16 in 1983. :-P
I had an outfit like tht last one only it had flowers ALL over it. It was awful but I thought it looked hot at the time.
I actually like that first black and red outfit. It's dramatic, in a good way!

I still can't understand how we walked around with those hyped up shoulder pads making us look like butch body builders. Do you remember, we shoved them under everything - tees, dresses..... even nighties seemed bare without them attached! OMG!
My Eyes....Ayyyyyyy
I remember buying a pricey outfit one day at a really chic shop in Beverly Hills. It was red cotton pants and camp shirt with primary color bows printed all over it. Uh huh. I'm not sure why I thought it looked good, but I did. I got it home, put it on again, looked in the mirror and was horrified. I never actually wore it out in public. But I spent money on it.
It was like there was some weird mind-control going on back then. I don't get it.
I secretly kind of like the bird sweater. I too remember a two piece outfit. It was a hand-me-down from my cousin in San Fransisco, and it was from Contempo Casuals and all you really need to know is knit, brown, ethnic-inspired print.
Uh-oh...I kind of like that last one.
LOL - they are pretty bad. I used to own a dress like in #3 and thought I was da bomb, but seeing it here makes me reflect on that dress a bit differently. Is strange how fashions change and we think they are cool at the time, but then later on...well...not so much.
