I was doing some research about a couture garment recently and was struck by the popularity of stripes for the spring of 1953. Mme. Grés seemed especially fond of striped silk for that season. Which is your favorite?
All of them! I adore when stripes come together at a seam to creat a chevron. I am actually designing a dress to sew (my first original!) that does that.
Jen - I agree completely! Anita - Can't wait to see your new design. Chevron stripes are difficult to do! Pseu - Yes I did see her post. I wish that exhibit had been open when we were in Paris. I'm hoping it will come to the States.
Omg they're ALL amazing! WOW. Its pics like these that really make me wish that people still wore such things. I know this is hardly day wear, but even in comparison to today's red carpet looks, it wins on the glamour stakes by a long shot!

Stunning. Did you see materfamilias' pictures from the Mme. Grès exhibit in Paris?

The first one, easily. Wow, they just don't make 'em like this anymore!
The red and white one is so pretty :)
ALL of them!! oh, for a time machine...
My favorite is the Manguin. The way those stripes swirl around the skirt astounds me. Thanks for popping by everyone!
I can never pick a favorite when you show such beauties!

Hello,
My favorite is Madame Gres.
The April British Vogue has a spread on stripes which is fascinating. I have always loved stripes especially navy and white.
I love to read your blog (very heavy sigh) as it reminds me of how nice people used to dress and sometimes I really miss it........
Kirsten
I have to go with the first 'cause it looks as if her flower bodice is about to overflow & her look is still so nonchalant!
