Weekend Eye Candy - Molyneux, 1925

Molyneux fashions the perfect summer frock for Spring, 1925.  Turquoise silk crepe is accented with beautiful tape lace in the two-tiered skirt and sleeves.  Note on the hat how the ribbon is attached under the brim instead of on top, where you'd expect.

Weekend Eye Candy - Sonia Delaunay, 1925

Artist Sonia Delaunay also produced fashion and textiles.  This coat c. 1925 is of brown wool that has has been completely covered in embroidery of wool yarn and silk threads.  The Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York is currently exhibiting "Color Moves: Art and Fashion by Sonia Delaunay" through June 5, 2011.  I'll be visiting the exhibit later this month and will have a full report for you.

Evening Dresses - 1925

Later this week, the holiday party season begins. Have you been invited to one, two, or more soirees? This week and next, we'll look at evening wear through the decades. I hope you'll be inspired to dress up and make a lasting impression on your fellow party-goers. Let's all end 2010 with some glamour, OK?

In the 1920s evening dresses are mid-calf in length and hang straight from the shoulders to the hem. The waistline is dropped and evening dresses are normally sleeveless. Delicate silk chiffons and crepes abound, often decorated with lace or elaborate beading. Enjoy these looks from 1925.

A beaded silk dress is worn with a dramatic feathered headpiece.

Lucien Lelong navy silk trimmed in lace at the skirt and flowers at the dropped waist.

Sheer gold lace and tulle float over a silk crepe underslip.

This dress has an elaborate beaded bird on the front and fringe at the hem.

Jean Patou adorns the skirt of this dress with flowers
and ropes of the same flowers hang from one shoulder.

Is the 1920s your decade of choice?

Weekend Eye Candy - Flapper, 1925

From 1925, a quintessential Flapper. Doesn't she look rather bored with the whole thing?

Weekend Eye Candy - Paul Poiret, 1925

Two-tone coat by Paul Poiret, c. 1925. A garment by Paul Poiret is my all-time vintage Holy Grail. I would faint if I ever found this coat.

Weekend Eye Candy - Erté Dress 1925

When I was in design school, I was often inspired by the details in Erté's designs. This frock, from 1925, is fashioned of purple crepe de chine which has been ingeniously shirred in varying directions on the bodice of the dress. The cocoon sleeves are held in place with orange ribbons and are completely detachable.
