Fun With Eye Makeup - 1966

Did you notice Megan's eye makeup during the party scene on Mad Men last week?  This look was very high fashion at the time and she wore it with confidence.  You know every woman in the room was jealous.  Why not try this look yourself?  Here are more examples for your inspiration, all from 1966.

Come on, you can do it!

It was fab, wasn't it? I think I'd fail miserably if I attempted it though. I've never been able to master eyeliner.

It would be helpful if you could provide directions for the look. I have some in my vintage magazine collection - McCalls, oddly enough, has a great beauty section for every issue.
The trick for the eyeliner and mascara is to keep your mouth open when you apply. You won't blink. Lashes require practice - they go on last.
It was the "banana eye" as the heavy shadow line in the crease was similar to a banana upside down.
Eyeliner can be done as follows: line your eyelid and let dry. Then, at the corner of your outer eye, usings a thin bristle brush, make an upward line to gain that upward look.

Her look on "Mad Men" is the "ye-ye" girl, "jeje" prononciation. French Canadian, French, & Spanish influence were part of this look. Teased hair w/ long bangs, heavy eye makeup (natch!), and light lipstick, sometimes with lip outlines blended. Beige or Pale foundation.

Raquel Welch is a great example of the time, as are Bardot and the Italian stars.

Have fun - I hope this helps.
