Today, no company in their right mind would show three women in animal prints wearing collars and leashes. I'm not so sure this was a good idea for Cole of California in 1954, when this ad was published. There's no denying these swimsuits are sexy though. "Three exciting swimsuits from Cole's Female Animal Collection. Fur-printed cotton...cut and shirred to make you the choicest specimen in captivity! Zebra, leopard, tigress....which are you?" These suits sold for $10.95 in 1954 (about $92 in today's dollar.)

I saw an ad for these in a fifties' Life magazine the other day where the women were behind bars in a cage. The copy reads "Two rare specimens from Cole's Female Animal Collection: The charcoal leopardress...a dangerous mankiller! Inhabits the smartest beaches". A little less "what where they thinking?!" than the leashes... still, as said, those suits are pretty AMAZING.
Fabulous! Absolutely fabulous. One on the right = my favorite.
I love all three! Just fabulous! I think the tiger one is my favorite.
I think I saw a similar ad to the one Lisa mentioned...it was in a 50's "seventeen" and showed women in dresses behind zoo-like cages. I also saw one with three cute girls in dresses and masks holding guns at a policeman!
Yikes :-)
