I had a private sale the other day and my friend Nancy stopped by to do a little shopping. Nancy has a great eye for fashion and she pulled out this lovely 1950s cotton dress that looked rather blah on the hanger. As soon as she put it on, the dress came alive. It looks like it was made for her, just 60 years ago! Nancy, you look beautiful!
Nancy brought along her friend Sandie. Sandie tried on this sequin covered party dress from the 1980s, and WOW! Talk about glamour! She will take this dress along to wear on a cruise, and she is sure to stand out from the crowd. Sandie, you look gorgeous!
Have you shopped for vintage lately? Perhaps you should!

Here's Kristel!
You've met Kristel before. Here she is dressed for a holiday party in a fabulous vintage dress she purchased from Couture Allure. The dress is a pretty shade of olive-y green that works beautifully with Kristel's auburn hair. The brocade has gold threads woven in for a bit of sparkle.
I love the little jacket that Kristel added. She said everyone loved her dress! Thanks for sharing your photos Kristel. You look beautiful as always.

Erin's Gatsby Dress
A couple of months ago, I listed these beaded fragments from a 1920s flapper dress in my SewHallie shop on Etsy. Longtime Couture Allure fan, blogger, and home sewer Erin bought them right away.
And baby, look at them now! Erin needed a dress for a creative black tie event at the zoo where she volunteers. She used the dress fragments for the skirt panels and the belt on her flapper style dress she sewed for the party.
You can read more about Erin's dress and how she made it over at Sew Weekly. Erin, thank you for giving new life to these pieces of history. You look fabulous!

1950s Wedding Gown Pattern and a Beautiful Bride
Sometimes the serendipity of life amazes me. Yesterday on Facebook, I posted a picture of this late 1950s wedding gown pattern that I listed for sale in my SewHallie Esty shop. Within minutes, Couture Allure fan Shauntelle responded that she had used the exact same vintage pattern when she had her wedding gown made 9 years ago.
And here is the lovely Shauntelle on the day of her wedding wearing her gown made from the vintage 50s Butterick pattern.
Shauntelle tells me her entire wedding was vintage inspired and she and her new husband held the reception at a bowling alley!
I love that scalloped neckline. Shauntelle, you are beautiful! Thank you for sharing your photos with us!

Meet Lauren of Wearing History
Today, I'd like to introduce you to the lovely Lauren of Wearing History. Lauren is a costume historian, blogger and the owner and designer of the Wearing History line of sewing patterns based on vintage and historical styles.
Lauren recently wore this 1930s inspired dress and cape to Costume College. The theme for this year's Gala was "The Golden Age of Hollywood" and Lauren made this 30s inspired dress to wear. Yes, she MADE it!!!!! The sheer outer layer is gold netting with spangles. The lining is made from the gold metallic crepe fabric I have for sale in my SewHallie Etsy shop. Incredible, isn't it? You can read more about Lauren's dress and cape and get inspired to sew your own dress at her Wearing History Blog. Thanks Lauren! You look fabulous!

Here's Jen Again!
You've met Jen Miller before on my blog. She is a freelance writer and the author of The Jersey Shore: Atlantic City to Cape May. Jen also pens the blog Down the Shore with Jen. Jen is a lover of vintage clothing and has been a frequent customer of Couture Allure since finding me on Twitter. She also is a smart lady in that she plans ahead and knows to buy a vintage dress that will work for her when she sees it, even if the event she needs it for won't be happening for months.
Jen snapped up this early 1960s cocktail dress at Couture Allure months ago as she knew it would be perfect to wear to her brother's wedding this past weekend. She chose to wear it without the belt and reports that she got loads of compliments. She tweeted that it is "one of the nicest cocktail dresses I've ever owned." That's vintage for you!

Meet Kristel!
Meet Kristel! She recently purchased this cute 1960s cotton shift dress from Couture Allure. I really like the way she added a simple cardigan to make this dress wearable on a chilly spring day. It's also a great way to tone down the print a bit. Thanks for sharing Kristel. You look fabulous!
I've listed lots of cute 1960s cotton shift dresses this season and they are selling out very quickly. There are still a few to choose from on the site. Shift dresses are so easy to wear. Every gal should own at least one!
