Awful 80s Fashion #3

Another installment in our public service posts about how not to dress - I bring you more awful 80s fashion.

Please don't wear sheer teal green pantyhose with teal green shoes. And please don't think your teal green legs look so hot that you need to expose more of them with a shirttail hemmed dress. Please.

UPDATED to add - If you want to see teal tights done right, take at look at Sal's outfit from yesterday at Already Pretty. She contrasts her opaque tights with a slim black skirt and black shoes. Not awful at all!

There's a way to do stripes right. This ain't it.

Better watch out if you live near the water and it's duck hunting season.

Grandma's doilies don't belong on your dress - especially as cuffs on your sleeves.

Plaid pants? Never. I said never! And please get a haircut.

Little embroidered whales on pants? Never. I SAID NEVER!

Only 2 more days to sign up for our latest giveaway - 1000 Hats! The book, not the hats.

LOL. I remember wearing all of the above except the duck shirt as they were all the latest and the greatest at the time.

Oh, dear! Call me a loon, but I like the duck shirt! (In fact, I want one!)

Looking back I guess the 80s was probably one of the worst fashion decades.
Compared to the 40s and 50s the 80s was an absolute disaster. The clothes were simple and unconstructed, the color combinations were awful. WOW……. A total fashion crimeeeeeeeeeeeee

OK-I kind of like the first outfit. Is that bad?

This post really makes me smile. I cannot believe some of the fashions we wore. I was guilty of a shirt tail hem but not with teal tights and shoes! I also had a pair of plaid pants but they were "Black Watch" tartan which is dark green, navy and black and I was very thin at the time(1980's Canadian size 4/US 2). I had diagonal stripes on my unitard for jazz dance classes. When I am in the thrift or vintage stores with my 16 year old daughter, I am shocked by 80's clothes that appeal to her as they often things I thought were not great at the time.

Please don't take me down this road. Wasn't it bad enough that I had to live through this era of ugliness.

Oh my gosh! It's too early to laugh that hard! "They" say turquoise is the color for 2010 you know...are you SURE we should not wear tights like that? LOL!!!
I love these posts.

This is hilarious! They're all so bad I can't choose which is the biggest offender! And let's think about the message behind WHALES on pants!!

The colour of the shoes in the first pic truly is awful but I would love to be able to find some medium height heels these days! Seems there is either a choice between super-high (usually with platform) or ballet flats. :(

I lived the 80's era when I was a young teenager and did not get to wear all the trends but I remember them very well. I like that the 80's are making a come back and that most of the fashion trends that are 80's inspired are a lot better now. In fact, I am into collecting 80's patterns since last year because I knew 80's were coming strong. Your 80's fashion worst choices were just ugly thing from the era. Oh, I am guilty of wearing Christmas red plaid pants last December. They were so cool!

Ooops! I worried those looked black - I'm actually wearing a navy dress and pumps. But I SO appreciate the shout-out!

I had a beautiful silk skirt and blouse that I bought in 81. The skirt was a patchwork print - very subtle with teal, deep eggplant, grey and some beige. The top was teal with a patchwork scarf. it's a nice outfit. But I remember putting it on with teal pantyhose and looking in the mirror and thinking why the hell are my legs that color? I took 'em off. I couldn't do it. It was a grown up outfit and there was nothing grownup about those hose.

When I scrolled down and saw the teal tights, I missed the header and thought, "Oh no! She likes those tights? I mean, I might have worn them when I was twelve, but..." Ha! Great post on a very chic blog.

I have to say I must be some kind of fashion freak, but I love some of those outfits. Not the loon shirt of course, put most of the others are workable with alterations.

I remember reading a fashion advice article in the 80's which insisted that one's tights must *always* match the colour of one's shoes. I followed that advice for years! *shudder* Thank goodness these days I can think for myself.

those whale pants are making a comeback with teens and i am on the hunt for a vintage pair. does anyone know any of the labels/name brands/manufacturers of the embroidered whale pants. i remember the kelly green with blue whales and sailboats. i have purchased some from vineyard vines, brooks bros. on ebay, but cannot find these. i guess they are known as critter pants or go-to-hell pants... i would greatly appreciate any help on finding a pair for my son. they'd be a christmas present. thanks!!
